Dada Mail Mailing Lists: [dadadev] Cleaning Up, Slowdowns

I finally got around to upgrading from 3.03 to 4.02 this week.  It looks like a great upgrade, but my sending speed dropped from about 7,000per hour to under 4,000per hour for a 160kb email, taking over 7 hours for my list of 29k.  Of course, it may be a busy ISP/hosting/server issue so I won't know for sure until I average it over a couple of sends.

What I was wondering was if there was any reason that v4 would slow it down.  I saw it wrote to a log that was recording all of the mail as it was being sent (can't find where it's stored),  That list didn't show any errors, all 29+k went out smoothly, but I wondered if it took precious time to write to that log. I could do without it.

I've been using Dada for several years now and and occasionally clean up and delete some of the old logs.  They're no longer relevant.  I did find however, that the ,tmp folder contained 43,247 items that spot checking revealed that most were old.  Is there any reason not to delete everything in this folder?  The cache folder, within the .tmp folder did contain some more current items.  Can I delete this, too?

Anything else I can clean up and eliminate to speed it up?  I regularly delete older items in the clickthrough log and even the bounce log.

FWIW, a couple of months ago I was having a problem with click-through tracking on the list I've been using since I started using the program.  The db (mysql) had many, many more rows for that list than the other more recently created lists. So I created a new list and migrated all of the subscribers to it from the old and all is working again.  I did lose the archive attached to the old, but that's not important.

As the final step, please type in the string of letters that you see in the below image into the text box:

    this list's archives:

This mailing list is to discuss the nerdy programming development of Dada Mail -

If you are just looking for support Dada Mail, consult the message boards at:

To post to this list, send a message to:

All subscribers of this list may post to the list itself.

    Some on topic... topics include:

    • Positive Crits on the program (I like, "x", but, "y" needs some work - here's an idea on how to make this better...)
    • Bug/Error reports
    • Bug fixes
    • Request For Comments on any changes to the program
    • Help customizing Dada Mail for your own internal needs
    • Patches
    • Language Translations
    • Support Documentation/Doc editing, FAQ's, etc.
    • Discussion of any changes that you would like to be committed to the next version of Dada Mail -

At the moment, there aren't many people with CVS access for Dada Mail - if you would like CVS access, please first talk about the changes you propose and how it will affect the program. If the idea is sound and agreed upon, the change will be comitted. A good track record of this will allow you to have CVS access. Some reasons that patches will not be accepted is if the patch breaks compatibility with a previous version of the program, the patch is too centric to your own problem or the patch simply isn't very good.

Please, please please familiarize yourself with the documentation at:

    http://dadamailproject.com/support/documentation/

Since no one wants to answer the same question twice.

Another sneaky reason for this mailing list is to test out the discussion list capabilities of Dada Mail, since Dada Mail is used for the mailing list itself.

NOTE - because of this, there may be times that this list will be somewhat broken. Although we're not planning on breaking the program by using it, we're giving you the heads up that this may well happen anyways.
